An Energetic Approach
to Concussions
Concussion is the most common diagnosis for mild traumatic brain injury. Typically associated with sports injuries, concussions are not isolated to only high-collision athletic events. Car accidents, trips, and falls, as well as unforeseen impacts to both the head and upper body, can lead to acute injury that typically resolves within a couple of weeks. Beyond this are concussions that don't resolve, resulting in chronic symptoms that interfere with every aspect of a person's life.
Current research acknowledges that Western science is still without concrete answers on the mechanism of a concussion. The impact alone is assumed to create a cascade of metabolic issues within the brain along with a handful of other hypothesized biochemical reactions. Severe injury can include axon tearing and other physical abnormalities that can be measured by standard Western medical modalities.
A major concern for athletes is something called Second-Impact Syndrome when an individual is rushed back onto the field or court too soon and receives a second concussion before the first has fully healed. This phenomenon has garnered much attention from the NCAA, the NFL, and combat sports organizations due to the risk of permanent brain damage and/or death. The recent focus on Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) emphasizes the need for advances in research more than ever.
After 25 years working in competitive athletics, alongside a 13-year athletic career, Dr. Holder has discovered a glimmer of hope within energetic medicine showing genuine promise. This approach represents a new frontier in concussion research, offering a fresh perspective on where to seek answers and how to address the energetic and spiritual injury, ultimately leading to the healing of the physical.
